SAVANNAH, GA – Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) and staff this week volunteered at Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia, a nonprofit, volunteer-led food bank that alleviates food insecurity and hunger

SAVANNAH, GA – Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) and staff this week volunteered at Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia, a nonprofit, volunteer-led food bank that alleviates food insecurity and hunger for Coastal Georgians.

According to its website, Second Harvest food bank provided 19 million meals in Coastal Georgia, where an estimated 143,000 people need food assistance.

“It was a privilege to spend an afternoon at Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia, a great organization that does important work for the First Congressional District. No one should have to go hungry, and it is encouraging to see people banding together to help their neighbors,” said Rep. Carter. “Public service is just that – a service – and I will never waiver in my commitment to serving GA-01.”

“Second Harvest relies heavily on the help of so many volunteers. We are delighted that Congressman Carter chose to bring his staff and summer interns to the food bank to help us out for a few hours this week. Not only were we able to utilize their willingness to pack emergency food boxes but also had the opportunity to introduce them to just one of the many programs that serve as a safety net for our neighbors who struggle with hunger. The food assistance boxes will go to school children and their families and will provide a boost to start the school year off well-nourished and prepared to learn,” said Mary Jane Crouch, Executive Director of America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia.

This event is part of an office-wide initiative within the office of Rep. Buddy Carter to participate in regular volunteer efforts. Earlier this year, Carter and staff donated their time to Over the Moon Diaper Bank in Savannah and Golden Isles Veterans Village in Brunswick.
